Are there any modern day witch hunts? Would you believe that someone would try to hunt down witches? I would be happy to tell you modern day witch hunts don’t happen in these modern times but that would be a lie. So many politicians, lawyers, public figures and even students experience their own modern day witch hunts just by admitting they are pagan. In paganism there is a term for letting the world know that you are pagan, it is called coming out of the broom closet. It is sometimes a similar and equally gut wrenching experience for some to tell others they are pagan. So many times people hear rumors and lies about what paganism is and what it stands for. Paganism is a wonderful nature based religions and some people don’t even know the true nature of paganism.

peers. These modern day witch hunts use torture tactics such as verbal and mental abuse. It is sad to think even in these modern times, that some people are abused for following their own path. Even in progressive thinking communities’ paganism is looked down upon. This proves how ‘progressive’ these communities truly are. Modern day witch hunts happen to good people just because they believe something different. People are east to accept the conventional views of religion and even are more accepting of different religions like Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. What would make certain religions more acceptable than others?

In order to move past these modern day witch hunts, we pagans need to use our appropriate platforms and speak out against abuse. We need to try and educate people on the true nature of witchcraft and help them to understand what magick really is. If you are a witch you should take it upon yourself to be as open and as confident as possible. If we answer their questions in a non abrasive manner then we can dispel some of the ignorance in the world regarding Wicca. If you are not a pagan but feel these modern day witch hunts hurt our people, our communities and our country, then simply correct the wrongs you may come across. A little knowledge can go a long way to healing the hurts of the past. With the help of everyone, we can have a really vibrant pagan community both on the internet and offline.
